Today we are talking about the IMPROVEMENT OF BREEDS by giving a little the example of Ladoum which is an Improved race.

Race upgrading is done in two ways:

– Either by Selection

– Either by interbreeding or crossing.

SELECTION consists of choosing two subjects (male and female) of the same breed and breeding them. This is what our elders did in the early 1970s by creating LADOUM. They selected the best touabers, put them in a good breeding environment. The fact of ELIMINATING subjects with faults or blemishes is also a mode of Selection.

CROSSING consists of breeding two subjects of different breeds. Now we cross just to crossbreed, stopping at the first generation. You can also crossbreed to improve a breed. And in this case, after the first cross the half-blood obtained is crossed with the male of the to be improved to obtain a 3/4, then this 3/4 crossed again with a male of the same breed to obtain a 7/8 of blood, the 7/8 cross will give a 15/16 and so on…

Already at the 4th generation (15/16 or 93%) we have the characteristics of the improved initial breed. This was carried out by Bergerie Galoya and Dr Diallo with the crossing of a very large Bali-Bali female to a Ladoum male in the early 2000s, with the objective of increasing the volume of our Ladoum females who were rather tall and slender. The 1/2 blood female obtained from this cross was crossed with a Ladoum male to obtain a 3/4 female (The famous MOTHER BI) which was crossed in turn with Birahim to have 7/8 blood (HAWA, BOSCO…).

HAWA the 7/8 was bred with Biram Ndiémé having a 15/16 blood named DIEYNA (Mother of Aicha, Bachir, FESMAN, DIEYNA girl, Demba and Dupont etc), Saladam Champion 2010 and great-grandmother of the champions like Magistrate, Makhou, Bâtonnier, Aldibeau, Baghdad, King Bashir etc. Note also that the 3/4 MOTHER BI was crossed to Biram Ndiémé with the result MADIA sire of SOUBEROU (father of Forman, grandfather of Teranga and Ndeweuneul)
